165. CTP Trainees - Home Page.

Welcome to the
Progressive Monitoring System
for the
Tanzania Cultural Tourism Programme Trainees.
With the tremendous improvement in the communication system - (Internet & Mobile Phones), we felt it is high time to start info exchange between the trainees and the CTP Coordinating Office. To do this effectively we have designed this Progressive Monitoring System to keep us informed of the progress that is being made or the obstacles/challenges being faced by the trainees who have received the training.
We have opened Individual pages for each trainee that will be used to publish all the info exchange between us. The Comments Box below may be used, but in most cases, SMS will be used and the contents will then be published.

This Blog contains the most latest training done to the following modules:
Lake Eyasi - Mang'ola.
Mbeya.
Mtwara.
We hope this facility will effective and useful to both trainees, CTP Coordinating Office in Arusha, The Tanzania Tourist Board and other stakeholders.

1.0         INTRODUCTION.
The Tanzania Cultural Tourism Programme was a five-year project jointly initiated and facilitated by TTB and SNV as from 1996 to 2001. Its objectives was to engage local communities in northern Tanzania in income generating tourism activities to alleviate poverty and to diversify the country’s tourism product offer.

SNV working with TTB played a great role in supporting the development of the CT modules/products, which have endured the test of time, and all are in operation until now. Some new ones have also been established without the help of SNV.

After the withdrawal of SNV support, TTB has continued to provide marketing support to the Cultural Tourism modules to date. Some of the CT Programme modules (enterprises) are doing well and some not so well.

Cultural Tourism business has of late aroused a lot of interest in individuals, communities, district and regions of Tanzania.

Cultural Tourism is a pro-poor/community based form of tourism initiatives in Tanzania that has since its inception shown good potential for directly contributing to poverty reduction through direct tour fees, jobs/salaries for local people, market for local products (food stuffs, handscrafts), exposure to knowledge and increase in confidence to local people to do little-known things.

In 2005, TTB and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Tourism with support from SNV conducted a baseline inventory as basis for developing strategies for promoting Cultural products that meet acceptable quality standards, with clear guidelines and monitoring systems being developed. The baseline inventory/assessment covered twenty-four (24) currently functioning modules.

The general conclusion from the baseline was that, there is a need for the Cultural Tourism Programme to be propelled to higher level of performance, and international promotion for recognition as a fully-fledged Tanzanian tourism product. During the baseline, inventory/assessment there were shortcomings and weaknesses (deteriorating quality, hygiene, cleanliness, and product package offering, modern marketing system) that need guidance and a monitoring system. There is an increasing demand from communities, districts and regions to develop their own CT modules and need guidance on how to do it.
